About VNDRL

vndrl - aboutVNDRL is the online alter-ego of Nathan Van Driel, a graphic designer and photographer based out of Edmonton, Alberta. With over 5 years of design and photography experience, Nathan is exploring what separates “average” design from the design that makes you stop in your tracks and want to explore it.

Drawing from a childhood full of sketchbooks, play forts, travel, and his creative and musical family, Nathan tries to develop a personal connection with every project he undertakes, be it design, photography, or a combination of both. With a passion for typography and the medium of printed paper stock, he likes to explore the relationship between the designed work and the people who interact with it.

After a successful internship, Nathan moved back to BC to work for Touchpoint Agency Inc.- formerly known as Madhouse Creative (www.marketingforsocialchange.com) Kelowna’s largest full-service advertising and marketing agency. There he had the opportunity to work with condo development companies as well as colleges and charitable organizations such as Big Brothers and Sisters and the Kelowna Women’s Shelter. He returned to Edmonton and took a contract position at the studio of Ignition Media (www.ignitionmedia.ca). There he developed the brand identities for new companies, re-branded larger corporations, and worked on the ad campaigns of international powerhouses.

Focusing now on freelance design and photography, VNDRL is always on the lookout for the client with whom he has a personal connection. How can the design on this project work towards something more sustainable and socially conscious? Is there a common bond?  A passion?  A hobby?  Finding something that ties his heart and soul into the project allows a deeper level of commitment.

Other passions of VNDRL include riding his bike through the city, reading a good travel book, a perfectly cooked grilled cheese sandwich, an acoustic guitar, magazines and Vanilla Coke.
